During May and June, S4 was happy to have Taylor Grosse as a marketing and design intern. An advertising major at the University of Florida, Taylor is getting ready to start her senior year.

Before heading back to Gainesville for a few summer classes, we sat down with Taylor to see how she felt about her experience at Station Four.

What interests you about digital marketing?

At school, there’s a lot of focus on traditional marketing and print. I was interested in interning at a digital agency because I wanted to get a feel for a more contemporary way of marketing a company or brand.

What did you like best about working at S4?

I liked having the opportunity to to participate with a bunch of different types of projects instead of just doing one thing. I also really liked the people. The office vibe was casual and friendly when I got here, so I didn’t feel intimidated at all.

Did you learn anything about working at an agency?

I guess I know that agencies are busy places, but it wasn’t until I got here that I realized how much was going on in a given day. There are a lot of projects at different stages that seem to be going in completely different directions.

I really enjoyed learning about using the continuous improvement approach to updating a website. It’s very different than what I’ve learned in school, and it seems to work very well.

Did any of the projects you worked on stick out?

I really liked the internal work I helped with, like doing an illustration audit or sitting in on internal meetings. I’d never really thought about marketing the agency versus marketing clients before. With a client you might only see a small part of their overall marketing plan, but working on marketing the agency makes it easier to see the whole picture.

What did you hope to take away from your internship?

I always wanted to go into design, but lately I haven’t been entirely sure. So, I came into the internship trying to figure out which direction I wanted to go with my career. I really wanted to check out all the different working parts at an agency to see if there would be something I would like more than just design.

Did anything about working at an agency surprise you?

I always knew the project managers were very busy, but I didn’t really know just how busy. I spent a lot of my time coordinating with both project managers, so it was easy to see they are always working. I never understood how much they did to keep a project running until coming here.

Is there anything you wished you had worked on or done while you were here?

I got to work on a lot of design stuff, which was nice. Social media would have been interesting to touch on. It’s something every company or brand needs to have on some level. It might have also been nice to get into a little bit of light copywriting.

How do you feel about MarioKart at lunch?

I really enjoy playing MarioKart at lunch even though I embarrass myself every time. All I can say is at least I’m consistent.

Any memorable moments?

Honestly, probably the banter at the lunch table. It’s so funny. Everyone gives everyone else a hard time...but they can’t give me a hard time because they don’t know me well enough yet.

We loved having the chance to work with Taylor and wish her the best of luck in her final year at UF!
