In preparation for AIGA Jacksonville’s 25th Annual Portfolio Review Weekend, Creative Partner Chris Olberding shares a little bit of wisdom for recent design grads on finding their first jobs in AIGA Jacksonville’s online News. Olberding discusses everything from interviews and resumes to portfolios and networking in his article.
In an excerpt from the article, Olberding explains the benefits of networking in the creative community:
A lot of interviews and hires are the result of a referral from a friend or a friend-of-a-friend. So go make more friends! If you’re looking for a job, your biggest resource is your network. You grow your network by going to industry events. AIGA is a great resource and hosts several events each year. There are also AAF (ad), JAMA (marketing), PRSA (public relations), and a host of young professional events. Introduce yourself, try to let people know you’re looking, and don’t over-promote. If you have fun and make new friends, a lot of other things in life tend to fall into place. I know this because that’s how I achieved my own success.
Station Four is also a presenting sponsor of the upcoming AIGA Jacksonville’s 25th Annual Portfolio Review with keynote speaker Jessica Hische. Make sure to check out Olberding’s full-length article at AIGA Jacksonville’s Online News.
