Event Sponsorships and Community Involvement This Spring
When we’re not crafting custom websites or the next big branding project, we like to keep ourselves busy with extracurriculars like speaking engagements, happy hours, and even the occasional trivia night. But not all of our “outside of work” activities are for fun and profit. Some are for fun and connecting with our local communities. At our new Portland offices, that means getting out there and making an entrance in the community by sponsoring and planning events.
Spearheaded by our Creative Director, Stephanie Ward, Station Four is a proud sponsor of PechaKucha Night Portland. If you haven’t heard of it before, PechaKucha is a quarterly event that features 10-12 speakers sharing their thoughts on a particular theme. The only catch is that they have to do so in 20 slides that last 20 seconds each, so it’s kind of like a Ted Talk on a timer. Past topics have included Voyages, Analog, and Pivot, but the event coming up on March 27th has the theme of “Comeback Stories.”
Station Four is proud to lend our illustration capabilities to create posters for the event and additional branded collateral for each show.
Stephanie also helps out on the AIGA Portland Women Lead Committee, which strives to create quality programming for female creatives in the Portland area. AIGA is, of course, the national professional association for graphic design. This year on International Women’s Day, Stephanie helped orchestrate a special event called “Femme Council: Advice for Ladies Who Give a Sh** and Aren’t Afraid to Ask”. It was an evening that borrowed its format from speed-dating, only this one was more like speed-mentorship. 16 Portland women from various industries lent their time and expertise to 32 attendees who would get 5 minutes with each of them. Stephanie helped with everything from event logistics to information design. She even got to test her best radio voice by guiding attendees from one area to another throughout the evening.
It’s difficult to be bored in a city like Portland, and we’re pretty happy to be part of the effort to bring fun and educational events to the community. If you’re in the Pacific Northwest, make sure to keep an eye out for PechaKucha, AIGA Portland, and more opportunities to meet the S4 Portland crew!
When S4's Creative Director isn't longing for the bygone days of boy bands, glitter, and questionable hairstyle choices that we call the 90s, she's helping us push our creative chops to the next level. She combines impeccable taste and artistic skill with a strong determination to make sure a design's target audience always understands the message perfectly.
